The SD150-14-002 monitor photodiode was designed to monitor the
optical power of an 850 nm VCSEL. The photodiode has a metal pad on its
top surface to mount the VCSEL die to, which is connected to a wirebond
pad. This wirebond pad is also connected to the anode of the photodiode.
The VCSEL can be attached to the photodiode with Au/Sn solder or with
conductive epoxy. The photodiode bottom (cathode) can also be attached
with Au/Sn solder or with conductive epoxy. The photodiode was designed
to be used with a TO-46 package.
·
The photodiode measures light that reflects back from the window
glass or fiber. The measurement of this reflected light can be used to warn
the user of a VCSEL over power condition or used for temperature
compensation feedback of the VCSEL's optical output. The monitoring photodiode is available in die packs for low
quantity (SD150-14-002) and stretched on 6-inch diameter plastic rings (SD150-14-002-S4) for large quantity
orders.
API can easily customize the monitor photodiode to a different configuration. API also has high volume
packaging capability to package the VCSEL die with monitor photodiode in a TO-46 package.
